Everyone interviewed for Ice Cream Social agreed that Ben Cohen is a genius at creating new flavors of ice cream. Last week, he did it again.
Cohen, who supports Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign, joined about 700 protestors outside a theater in Burlington, Vermont before Donald Trump appeared there on January 7. Ben is also a genius at publicity, so naturally he scored an interview on a cable network.
Ben told an MSNBC reporter that he’d thought of a new flavor called “Bernie’s Yearning” to represent Sanders, the former mayor of Burlington. “When you open up the pint, there’s this big disc of chocolate covering the entire top, and below it is just plain mint ice cream,” he said. “The disc of chocolate represents the 90 percent of wealth that’s gone to the top 10 percent over the last 10 years. The way you eat it is that you take your spoon and you whack that big chocolate disc into a bunch of little pieces and you mix it around, and there you have it, Bernie’s Yearning.” In the clip above, the quote begins at 3:45.
Cohen no longer develops flavors for Ben & Jerry’s, and so far the company hasn’t commented on his idea—but genius can’t be denied, so keep checking our Facebook page and have your spoons ready.
